The Context & Challenge Designed for the Bar-Ilan University  President’s Office, this annual digital magazine is released ahead of the prestigious Board of Trustees week, showcasing both academic breakthroughs and administrative achievements. The 2025 edition marked a pivotal moment: celebrating BIU’s 70th anniversary under the poignant theme “Raising a Nation,” reflecting on the university’s historical role alongside the current national post-war recovery.

The Design Concept: Nostalgia Meets Modernity

To honor this milestone, I developed a visual language that bridges past and present. The site’s interface features a tactile paper texture background, acting as a canvas for historical photographs presented as vintage postcards and envelopes, evoking a sense of heritage. This nostalgic aesthetic is expertly balanced with clean, modern typography and a clear, intuitive navigation structure, ensuring the extensive content is accessible and engaging.

Key Feature: The “Then & Now” Interactive Sliders

A standout feature anchored at the bottom of key pages is the interactive A/B comparison sliders. Executing this required an extensive sub-project involving deep archival research to source historical imagery. I meticulously matched these vintage photos with contemporary counterparts. This involved precise digital alignment and, in cases where current imagery didn’t exist, on-site original photography where I recreated the exact angles and perspectives of the original historical photographers to capture the university’s physical evolution seamlessly.

Scope & Execution

The final product is a comprehensive, fully responsive digital publication containing dozens of individually designed articles. It seamlessly integrates diverse rich media, including video content and photo galleries, to support the overarching visual narrative of growth and resilience across all devices.
